PROVO — There is no injury news coming out of BYU’s camp regarding quarterback Tanner Mangum as the team prepares for No. 10 Wisconsin on Saturday, leaving the question open, will Beau Hoge play?
Hoge is a redshirt sophomore and the backup to Mangum, who suffered a left ankle or left foot injury on the Cougars’ final offensive play in a 19-13 loss to Utah last Saturday.
“Can’t say anything right now. We don’t talk about injuries and reps, and all those things,” BYU offensive coordinator Ty Detmer said Wednesday, when asked about the status of the team’s starting quarterback. “We’ll just kind of see what happens come Saturday.”
Pressed for information if Mangum practiced Wednesday, Detmer said, “I’m not going to talk about who’s practicing, and who’s not.”
BYU is trying to recover from a two-game losing streak while struggling on offense thus far in 2017. Through three games, the Cougars have averaged 11.0 points, 76.3 rushing yards and 231.7 total yards per game, all three categories in the bottom 15 in the nation.
The Badgers, meanwhile, are 2-0, with wins over Utah State and Florida Atlantic and feature a defense that is allowing just 12.0 points, 95.5 rushing yards and 276.0 total yards …read more
