AUBURN – Kevin Steele knew at some level he wouldn’t be sleeping much Saturday night or Sunday morning and was prepared for his own coaching insomnia.
The Auburn defensive coordinator said Sunday that he couldn’t settle himself down for the normal length of rest while his mind was still on his team’s 14-6 loss at No. 2 Clemson. After 37 years of coaching at the college and professional level, Steele has figured out how to pass the time without taking sleeping pills or natural versions to cause normal slumber. “When you can’t sleep and you coach, you watch tape so I watched tape. I graded the film on the way back last night and watched some of (Mercer) on the way back last night and got up this morning and started watching (Mercer).”
Short of two possessions that resulted in Clemson’s touchdowns Saturday night, one would have to believe Steele gave out solid grades across the board to his players for what was another solid effort against a high-powered Clemson offense as they held the defending national champions to just 284 …read more
